Getting to know... James Winward, Industrial Disease Case Manager

Introducing James, our talented Industrial Disease Case Manager! If you’re a solicitor firm requiring an Industrial Disease Medical Report, James will find you the ideal expert for your case while ensuring you receive a personal service from instruction through to completion. Read on to learn more about him and his key role here at MLA.

1. What’s the most rewarding area of your work?

There is nothing more rewarding than doing a good job and getting good feedback!

2. What challenges do you face and how do you overcome them?

From urgent cases to clients needing appointments in remote locations, I face numerous challenges on a daily basis as this role has such a diverse nature. Ultimately, it’s a case of ensuring all angles have been covered and you do everything you can to overcome them.

3. What made you want to get into your current area of work?

I have always been a service-focused person and enjoy ensuring quick physical turnarounds that don’t compromise on quality of service while also providing valuable knowledge when dealing with a variety of unique cases. I very much enjoyed my time being responsible for the audiology side of the business and when the opportunity was presented to work within the industrial disease department, I was excited to see where it would take me.

4. Where have you worked prior to MLA?

A variety of places/roles before settling here – from catering at Camelot Theme Park to working in exhaust factories! I also worked for another medical agency for around four years before joining MLA.

5. What has been the best moment of your career?

It has to be getting an Employee of the Year award.

6. What has been your greatest personal achievement?

Can’t top being a father to my little boy, Josh!

7. Where were you born/where did you grow up?

I was born in Chorley, Lancashire, and still live there to this day.

8. Please tell us three fun facts about you.

  • I can DJ (old school turntables and more modern methods)
  • I am a mad keen fisherman (carp, mainly)
  • I absolutely love my spiced/dark rums – find me a local rum festival and I am there!

9. Do you have any pets?

Currently, no, but I’m hoping to be able to get a dog very soon once we have bought a house.

10. What is your ideal holiday?

Proper holidays have to have to be fun for all the family, include pools, plenty of rum and the weather must be very hot!

11. What would your autobiography be called?

With Ice and Lime Please!

12. Tea or coffee?

As anyone in this office will testify to, I am responsible for a large portion of the coffee budget!

13. What are the best things in life?

Family, friends, days by the lake, and rum and coke.
